Spend preparation time choosing
First identify the actual question and the kind of answer it asks for: explanation, evaluation, or recommendation. Choose a bounded answer. Then write a short route through two reasons or one reason and a serious objection. Avoid spending all your preparation composing an elegant opening before you know what you will argue.
Use adaptable structures
For an opinion, try point, reason, example, and return to the point. For a decision, use criterion, comparison, and judgment. For an unfamiliar concept, use definition, example, and boundary. These are aids to thinking rather than scripts to recite mechanically. Change the structure when the question demands it.
Make uncertainty audible
An impromptu answer should not become a performance of invented expertise. Use a hypothetical example when you lack a verified case, and identify it as hypothetical. State what you can establish, what you are assuming, and which further information could change your judgment. If you lose your place, return to the central point and complete the next logical step.

Use sixty seconds of preparation and two minutes of speaking. Write only the claim, two support headings, and the closing sentence. In the next attempt, keep the same prompt and replace the weaker example.
